Some people never learn

Don't you hate those people? Yeah, those people would be me. Every time I schedule multiple photo sessions in conjunction with a trip I always think I am going to get them edited and posted sooner than I am. And every time I travel while pregnant I always think I will recover faster than I do. And every time I try to convince the baby that coffee used to taste really good it quickly reminds me that it no longer does.

So two weeks later, here I am! Blogging will be slow for a few weeks while I get caught up (shocking!) but check back tomorrow for the first of my recent SC spring photo sessions. It was a week of beautiful weather and adorable kids and I am super excited to share them with you.

In the meantime, because everyone likes it when posts come with pictures, here's a quick shot of Dylan and me (and Baby Shorty) that my sister took after church on Easter.

Some perspective on spring

It's the first day of spring and I live in the city,
so really things aren't yet looking too pretty.





But the sun was so warm and the breeze lightly blowing,
and I was antsy to know that SOMETHING was growing.

I picked up my camera and walked out the door,
on a mission to find spring in Baltimore.

I saw brick and concrete and lots of bare trees
but where were the colors and flowers and bees?





One tree caught my eye with a few blooms of red,
and then I saw white on a tree up ahead.








I found one growing pink and another one green,
but overall there wasn't too much to be seen.





It seemed that I was searching for something not here,
that true spring in the north would show later this year.

As I slowly walked home I let out a long sigh,
but suddenly something bright caught my eye.

I stopped in an alley and my smile spread wide,
and I reached for the camera hanging at my side.

Perspective is key and I had been looking all wrong,
turns out spring has been just out back all along!

Lesson learned

So today I made a mistake.

You see, the most recent snowstorm dumped another 19 inches on us, which is beautiful no matter what everyone else thinks. I decided to change out of my pajamas long enough to trek into the park with my camera. My goal was to get some jaw-dropping, award-winning shots of the ducks on the sparkling frozen pond in the park. Simple enough.

Except that I decided to kill two birds with one stone (oooh, terrible idiom choice there) and take the dog on his afternoon walk at the same time.

It is a wonder that I did not end up IN the frozen lake. It is a wonder that I did not break my camera. It is a wonder that I did not let the dog free to run away forever.

Knee-deep snow + knee-height dog + lots of flapping birds + photographic dreams = Frustrating waste of time.

I basically snapped blindly as Riley flailed about on his leash and jerked me to and fro. I don't even know what I had my camera set on. A large portion of my shots had two pointy brown ears sticking up in them. I think the kids sledding down the hill nearby were quite amused.
